Windmore History

History
Windmore Foundation for the Arts, Inc. was founded in the spring of 1984 under the working title of Culpeper Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. The name “Windmore” was chosen to honor the dairy farm that once operated at the site of Windmore’s amphitheater.
Windmore was created to promote the arts in the Northern Piedmont area, serving the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Orange, and Madison. Since its inception, Windmore has supported, presented, and provided education in many of the fine arts disciplines: theatre, music, dance, literature, visual arts, and arts education.
Windmore continues to focus on maintaining the diversity of the arts represented and increasing the participation of people from all ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Painting of the Windmore Farm Barn by Mille Lane is from the collection Mike Markley.
